The Folsom, El Dorado & Sacramento Historical Railroad Association was incorporated in January of 1995 as a CA Non-profit 501(c)3 organization. The Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad (PSVRR) was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) private, non-profit, public benefit corporation in 2008 to function as the excursion operations arm of the Folsom, El Dorado & Sacramento Historical Railroad (FEDSHRA). FEDSHRA acquired the equipment for the PSVRR and the PSVRR has operated excursion trains on the former Placerville branch line of the Southern Pacific Railroad since 2009. During these years the primary vehicles used were gasoline powered maintenance of way type equipment. During the 2015 season, a diesel electric locomotive and a seventy-passenger converted flatcar was used to transport enthusiastic riders. This locomotive and passenger car made their first appearance in September at the 2014 Folsom Rail Fest. The Rail Fest is a yearly event held on the Placerville Branch line which dates back to the 1800's. In 2019 PSVRR acquired the Heber Valley #4028 diesel electric locomotive and in 2020 has acquired the Santa Cruz Portland Cement 2 Steam Locomotive. Operations to go live by the end of 2024. The PSVRR operates the excursion trains on several sections of the 20+ miles of available track for holiday events like Memorial Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Halloween, and Christmas.

Mission

Our mission is to educate the general public by preserving and maintaining the railroad history in the City of Folsom, County of El Dorado, County of Sacramento, and related connections. Since 1995, we have accomplished this mission with our Folsom Railroad Museum, the longest running railroad handcar racing event in the Nation the Folsom Handcar Derby, and with our railroad excursion partners the Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad (PSVRR).

Needs

The Folsom Railroad Museum is located in a vintage railroad passenger car located in Historic Folsom on the railroad block between two historic railroad depots, the Folsom Railroad Depot and the Ashland Freight Depot, and compliment the 1850's gallows style turntable on site. Your donations help keep the volunteers, the Museum, the Folsom Handcar Derby, and Rail History alive for the community and visitors. The Museum is currently in need of exterior paint maintenance and will require an approximate $7,000 paint upgrade.

The FEDSHRA organization is currently looking into the renovation of the Southern Pacific Supervisors house currently located in the Folsom Railroad wye trackage. Working with the City of Folsom, we will need funds and a contractor to accomplish this project. If this is something you may be interested in, please contact us!

Volunteers for our annual Folsom Handcar Derby, www.HandcarDerby.com, are always appreciated. Most of those volunteers for the Handcar Derby enjoy coming back each year for the event, some for over 30 years.

Handcar race training is provided with an emphasis on Safety First.

The Handcar Derby is held over one weekend each year, usually set for the first weekend in May. Currently, we plan to hold the 31st Annual Folsom Handcar Derby this year. The Handcar Derby is one of the longest running handcar races in the nation.

Volunteers are needed that can help at the Folsom Railroad Museum, weekends 11:00am to 4:00pm, to keep our local railroad history a part of their community and to pass along that history to younger rail enthusiasts. Training is supplied to those new to the regional rail history.

Contact Bill Anderson for more information on how you can help.
